One of the things I love most about being a professional hair and makeup artist is how different it can be from one day to the next! Whether you’re working with a bride, on a film set or at London Fashion Week, it’s always such fun to meet so many new people from different backgrounds and work in luxurious locations.
A recent favourite of mine was when I got the chance to be the hair and makeup artist on a very exciting photo shoot with international Jazz musician Nathan Haines and his wife, model/clothing company ownerJamie Webster, for the announcement of their pregnancy being covered byNew Zealand’s Women’s Day Magazine. It was a fantastic day to be a part of!
We started the shoot off on the beautiful rooftops ofNew Zealand House (the views were spectacular!).
Here, we made the most of the sunshine and captured the dewy makeup that I, as the shoot makeup artist, had chosen to use on Jamie, beautifully.
For this look, I used one of my go-to makeup artist brands, Nars, and used theirsheer glow foundation for a lovely, luminescent base; The makeup artist favorite, Urban Decay‘s Naked palettes 1 and 3 for a delicately defined eye andStilaconvertible colour which gives such a natural, healthy glow – perfect for a mum to be!
I also used some light makeup on Nathan, as boys need a makeup artist for photo shoots too, don’t forget! Obviously, I wanted to have Nathan looking his best without the makeup being noticeable, so I chose to use just a light dusting of Macface and body and powder for subtle coverage and to get rid of any excess shine.
For both Nathan and Jamie’s hair, I used Bumble and Bumble products, but different ones to suit the requirements.
For Jamie’s, we decided to go for loose curls to keep the overall look beautiful, but not overdone – for this I used tongs and my trusty Bumble and Bumble Styling Lotion to keep her looking gorgeous all day! A must have product for any hair and makeup artist.
For Nathan’s short hair I wanted a lightweight hold with a nice, matte finish for the camera, so I went for Bumble and Bumble’s Sumotech wax – great on any hair types, even fine hair.
It was a really fun filled photo-shoot, and it was such an honour to be chosen as their hair and makeup artist, but as with a lot of jobs it was a long day, so by the end of it we were all feeling pretty hungry – baby bump included! We were lucky enough to finish the day at celebrity Chef’Peter Gordon’s restaurant,The Providores and Tapas room, and sample the most amazing food.
An fabulous day was had by all and I loved every minute!
